Q4 2026 Inventory Deadlines: Last Safe Inbound Dates for Black Friday

|
11 min read
Amazon's 2026 Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday inbound cutoff for most FBA sellers in the US is 28 October, not the holiday itself. Amazon splits that cutoff into three dates depending on how you ship, and the UK and EU cutoffs fall on different days entirely. Miss the one that applies to your shipment type and your inventory still arrives, just without a guarantee it reaches the shelf (or earns the Prime badge) before the sales event starts.
Amazon's Q4 2026 inventory deadlines are the dates your shipment must arrive at a fulfilment centre to be sold during a specific sales event. For Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday in the US, that is 14 October for AWD shipments, 21 October for FBA shipments with minimal shipment splits, and 28 October for FBA shipments with Amazon-optimized shipment splits. The UK deadline is 28 October too, but other EU countries work to 21 October, and the deadlines are separate from the 15 October-14 January holiday peak fulfillment fee window.

What is the actual deadline to ship inventory for Black Friday 2026?

There is no single Black Friday deadline. Amazon's own seller-forum announcement, "Holiday 2026: Same fees, same eligibility, earlier deadlines" (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/3e31fbb7-04e0-4ed4-873e-f74b1052e2ff), gives three separate inbound inventory dates for US sellers, one per shipping method, so that your inventory earns the Prime badge in time for the event. A second official forum post, "Your Q4 Inventory Deadlines Are Here" (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/f2b86239-7d49-445a-9b8e-73e5f8aed0d8), restates the same dates and adds appointment-scheduling guidance.

"Minimal shipment splits" sends your whole shipment to fewer fulfilment centres, so it is faster to receive but gives Amazon less flexibility, which is why its cutoff is a week earlier than the optimized-split option most sellers actually choose. If you are not sure which setting your account uses, check the shipping-split choice during shipment creation before you plan around the later date.

Why does Amazon split the deadline into AWD, minimal-split and optimized-split dates?

Each date reflects how much internal repositioning Amazon still has to do after your shipment lands. AWD stores inventory in bulk and replenishes fulfilment centres for you over time, so it needs the most lead time and gets the earliest cutoff (14 October). "Minimal shipment splits" sends boxes to fewer fulfilment centres, leaving Amazon more onward moving to do, so that date sits in the middle (21 October). "Amazon-optimized shipment splits" routes boxes straight to the fulfilment centres closest to demand with no extra step after receipt, which is why it gets the latest cutoff (28 October) and why Amazon says most sellers use it.
A split shipment is only as fast as its slowest leg
If one shipment plan travels partly by air and partly by sea, every leg has to clear the fulfilment centre by the cutoff for that split type, not just the fastest one. A shipment that is "50% received" by the deadline is not event-ready; Amazon's own wording is that inventory arriving after the cutoff isn't guaranteed to be processed in time, full stop.

Are the UK and EU deadlines different from the US?

Yes, and the UK is not even aligned with the rest of Europe. Amazon's UK/EU "Q4 2026 peak readiness playbook" (https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/help/hub/reference/external/G4QH4XCRWUXRJBLY) and the matching UK seller-forum post give inbound cutoffs that run a week later for the UK than for other EU marketplaces (Germany, France, Italy, Spain).

Europe's AWD cutoffs are separate again, and earlier than either FBA date: inventory must arrive at AWD distribution centres in Europe by 7 October 2026, and the replenishment shipment from AWD to FBA must be created by 10 October 2026. Amazon is also waiving the AWD storage fee for all eligible inventory at its Europe AWD distribution centres from 1 October to 31 December 2026 (other AWD fees, such as inbound processing, outbound processing and transportation, still apply at standard rates); the storage fee resumes on 1 January 2027. US AWD does not carry the same storage-fee waiver; its peak advantage is simply no added peak-season fees at all, covered in the AWD section below.

What happens if your inventory misses the cutoff?

Nothing stops your shipment from being received, but three things change. Amazon's own wording is a guarantee gap, not a hard block: inventory arriving after the cutoff "isn't guaranteed to be processed in time" for Prime-badge eligibility during the event. Capacity also gets tighter exactly when you need it most: fulfilment centre teams focus on receiving shipments in September and October, then shift to processing customer orders in November and December, so sellers "may see lower capacity limits" and inbound delivery window slots become limited in those two months. And incomplete box-content information through Send to Amazon can disqualify a shipment from auto-receiving entirely, adding a manual processing fee on top of a late arrival.
  • Schedule delivery appointments at least 7 days before the cutoff for your shipment type; with Amazon Partnered Carriers, book the pickup at least 14 days before.
  • Book off-peak appointment slots (lower-demand hours and weekends) for faster processing once the shipment lands.
  • Consolidate deal inventory in dedicated boxes, separate from non-deal stock, so deal-eligible units clear receiving first.
Running low on a specific SKU compounds the problem: the low inventory level fee guide covers the separate charge Amazon can add when your days-of-supply drops too far below your own historical average, which is its own reason not to cut Q4 shipments too close to the wire.

How do holiday peak fulfillment fees interact with the shipping deadline?

They are two separate things that happen to overlap on the calendar. The inbound deadlines above decide whether your stock is in the building in time for a specific sales event. Holiday peak fulfillment fees are a fee-rate change that applies to every FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime order in a fixed window, regardless of when the unit itself arrived. In the US, that window runs 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, with the same per-unit increase over non-peak rates as last year, averaging $0.32 per unit, plus a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge on top of the peak fee. The UK and Germany run a parallel "festive peak fulfilment fee" on the same dates: in the UK it averages £0.12 per parcel item and £0.07 per large or extra-large envelope item (local FBA and Remote Fulfilment from the EU to the UK); in Germany it averages €0.27 per unit (local and Pan-EU FBA, the European Fulfilment Network, and Remote Fulfilment from the UK to the EU).
Marketplace Peak window Average added fee
US (FBA / RFBA / MCF / Buy with Prime) 15 Oct 2026 - 14 Jan 2027 +$0.32/unit plus a 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge
UK (parcels, local FBA + Remote Fulfilment EU→UK) 15 Oct 2026 - 14 Jan 2027 +£0.12 per parcel item, +£0.07 per large/XL envelope item
Germany (local, Pan-EU, EFN, Remote Fulfilment UK→EU) 15 Oct 2026 - 14 Jan 2027 +€0.27 per unit
How do holiday peak fulfillment fees interact with the shipping deadline?
Work the US number forward exactly as Amazon states it, using an illustrative $5.20 off-peak fulfilment fee: the $0.32 average peak increase lands it at $5.52, then the 3.5% fuel surcharge applies on top of that peak fee, adding $0.19 (3.5% of $5.52), for a peak-period fee of $5.71: a $0.51 total increase, not the $0.32 headline figure alone. Run your own ASIN's actual off-peak fee through the same two steps rather than reusing $5.20. The holiday peak fee breakdown covers size-tier rates, and the EU festive peak explainer covers the UK/DE side.

Should you route extra stock through AWD instead of FBA?

For stock you are not confident will sell through before the FBA cutoff, AWD is built for this window. Amazon's "Q4 Inventory Deadlines" post lists two concrete peak-season advantages: no additional AWD fees during peak (unlike the FBA peak fulfillment fee increase above), and AWD-replenished inventory is not subject to FBA capacity limits during peak. Sellers who enrolled in AWD in Q4 2025 reportedly saw a 13%+ rise in shipped units and a 30%+ drop in out-of-stock days that quarter, per the same Amazon post. That is a company-reported figure, not independently audited, but directionally consistent with the capacity-limit exemption. Enable automatic replenishment to FBA in the US and you also keep the off-peak monthly storage rate through 31 October 2026.
Knowing your real days-of-stock, not just the calendar, decides which deadline actually applies to you. SellerMagnet's Inventory Planner calculates days of stock left, an expected stockout date and units to send per SKU from your real sales velocity (lookback window 7-365 days), so you can see three weeks out whether a SKU will clear the 28 October FBA cutoff on a normal reorder or needs an AWD or expedited shipment instead. What should you do with Black Friday stock that doesn't sell?

Treat the US aged inventory surcharge as part of your Q4 plan, not a January surprise. Amazon's aged inventory surcharge page (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/GJQNPA23YWVA4SBD) charges units stored in a US fulfilment centre for 181 days or longer, assessed from a snapshot on the 15th of each month and billed between the 18th and 22nd. Black Friday stock itself won't hit 181 days until well into 2027, so this matters more for stock already sitting from earlier in 2026, but the fix is the same either way: submit a removal or disposal order by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the 14th, and that inventory skips the surcharge for that cleanup cycle even if it hasn't physically left yet.
The aged-inventory threshold is not the same in every marketplace
The 181-day US threshold is not universal. The UK's equivalent surcharge starts later, at 241 days, and Amazon's Australian FBA Inventory Age help page states a 271-day threshold. Check the page for your own marketplace before planning a removal date; the FBA storage fee guide has the full US picture.

How to plan your Black Friday 2026 inbound shipment against the real deadline

  1. Identify your shipment type - AWD, FBA minimal shipment splits, or FBA Amazon-optimized shipment splits (the default for most sellers). Each has its own cutoff.
  2. Confirm your marketplace's dates - US dates (14/21/28 October) apply only to the US store; UK works to 28 October, other EU marketplaces to 21 October, Europe AWD to 7-10 October.
  3. Work backward from the cutoff, not forward from today - Book a delivery appointment at least 7 days before the cutoff, or a Partnered Carrier pickup at least 14 days before, then add your own transit time.
  4. Check your capacity limit first - October/November capacity limits may run lower than usual; confirm current and estimated limits in the Capacity Monitor before committing a large shipment.
  5. Decide the AWD question for uncertain stock - Route inventory you're unsure will sell through FBA's cutoff into AWD, where it avoids both the peak fulfillment fee increase and the capacity limit.

What is the last day to ship inventory to Amazon for Black Friday 2026?

In the US, it depends on shipment type: 14 October 2026 for AWD, 21 October for FBA shipments with minimal shipment splits, and 28 October for FBA shipments with Amazon-optimized shipment splits (the option most sellers use). The UK deadline is also 28 October, while other EU marketplaces work to 21 October.

Does Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) have different deadlines than FBA?

Yes. AWD's own inbound cutoff is earlier than FBA's because Amazon still has to redistribute AWD stock into fulfilment centres afterward: 14 October 2026 in the US for Black Friday Week, and 7 October 2026 in Europe (with the AWD-to-FBA replenishment shipment due by 10 October).

What happens if my inventory arrives after the cutoff date?

Amazon does not reject a late shipment, but it is no longer guaranteed to be processed in time for the event's Prime-badge eligibility. Capacity also gets tighter in October and November as fulfilment centres prioritise receiving over order processing, so a late shipment can face longer queues on top of missing the badge guarantee.

Are the UK and EU inbound deadlines different from the US?

Yes. For Black Friday Week 2026, the US and other-EU cutoff is 21 October (FBA minimal shipment splits) with a later optimized-split date; the UK's cutoff is 28 October, a full week later than other EU marketplaces, and Europe's AWD cutoff is separate again, at 7 October.

How do I avoid the aged inventory surcharge on leftover Black Friday stock?

Submit a removal or disposal order before 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the 14th of the month; the inventory then skips that month's surcharge even if it hasn't physically left yet. The US threshold is 181 days in a fulfilment centre; the UK's is 241 days, so check your own marketplace's figure.
