Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly Program 2026

11 min read
Climate Pledge Friendly is the leaf icon that shows up on Amazon product pages, and Amazon has now put a real number behind it: an average +12% sales lift and +10% more glance views in a product's first year in the program, according to Amazon's own Seller Central help page. Getting in is not automatic, though; it runs through a specific set of qualifying third-party certifications, and several whole categories are excluded no matter which certification a product holds. This guide works through Amazon's own program page and help article for which certifications qualify, how enrollment actually works, and whether the published lift is worth the certification effort for a given catalog.
Climate Pledge Friendly is an Amazon program that highlights products recognized by at least one approved third-party sustainability certification with a leaf icon on the product page. It covers 14 international Amazon stores and over 4 million products. Amazon's own data shows an average 12% sales lift and 10% more glance views in a product's first year in the program. There is no Amazon fee to join, but the certifying body may charge for the certification itself, and products in 10 categories, such as aerosols and single-use beverage pods, are excluded regardless of certification.

What is Climate Pledge Friendly?

Amazon's Sustainability Solutions Hub page describes Climate Pledge Friendly as a collaboration with trusted third-party certifications, plus a small number of certifications Amazon creates itself, to highlight products that meet recognized sustainability standards. On the customer side this shows up as a leaf icon and a sustainability-features label across badges, filters, recommendations and a dedicated storefront. On the seller side, the Seller Central help article for the program (US-store version) states the program reaches 14 international stores and makes it easy to discover and shop for over 4 million products carrying a sustainability feature.
This is not the same as Amazon's own sustainability commitments
Climate Pledge Friendly is a customer-facing product label driven by third-party certifications. The Climate Pledge itself, which over 500 companies have signed according to Amazon's program page, is Amazon's own corporate commitment and a separate thing entirely; a seller cannot sign a product up for the corporate pledge, only for the product-level certification program covered here.

The published numbers: sales lift and glance views

The Seller Central help article states the lift plainly: Climate Pledge Friendly products see a +12% sales lift and a +10% lift in glance views on average within the first year of joining the program. Amazon credits the figure to a 2024 commissioned study involving a PhD from the USC Marshall School of Business, and notes the sales-lift figure is based on data from the US and EU5 marketplaces; it is explicitly not a guarantee, since results vary by sales velocity, category, brand and quality.

Worked example: applying the published lift to a real catalog

A seller enrolls 40 ASINs that together currently sell 500 units a month for $12,500.00 in revenue, with 18,000 glance views a month across those listings. Applying Amazon's published +12% average sales lift puts the first-year run rate at 560 units and $14,000.00 a month if the average holds for this catalog; applying the +10% glance-view lift puts monthly glance views at 19,800. Amazon's own caveat matters here: this is what the published average implies for one sample catalog, not a forecast for any specific product, since the real figure depends on category, brand and how competitive the certified alternative set already is.
Metric Baseline (before CPF) + Amazon's published average lift First-year figure
Monthly units 500 +12% 560
Monthly revenue $12,500.00 +12% $14,000.00
Monthly glance views 18,000 +10% 19,800
Amazon's published Climate Pledge Friendly average lift: +12% sales, +10% glance views, in a product's first year in the program

Which certifications qualify, and how does enrollment work?

There is no self-certification path. A product qualifies only once it carries an approved third-party sustainability certification, and the enrollment mechanics differ a little by certification family. For most qualifying certifications, a seller completes Amazon's CPF product template for the relevant ASINs and shares it with the certifier, who then sends the product-level data to Amazon directly; the template is English-only. A named set of textile certifications, including the Global Organic Textile Standard, Global Recycled Standard, Organic Content Standard, Recycled Claim Standard, Responsible Wool Standard and the Leather Working Group, follows this same template path. USDA Organic and EU Organic each have their own short submission flow (case size capped at 20 ASINs, with the certification name entered in the case subject line), and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN are submitted the same way, one contact case per certification.
  1. Log in to Seller Central with a Professional selling account.
  2. Open the Growth menu and select Explore Programs, then choose the Sustainability Solutions Hub.
  3. Review the qualifying certifications listed for your product category and pick the one your product already holds, or could reasonably pursue.
  4. For most certifications: complete Amazon's CPF product template for your ASINs and share it with your certifier, who reports the product-level data to Amazon.
  5. For USDA Organic, EU Organic, or OEKO-TEX: submit the ASINs (or template) directly via a support case, naming the certification in the case subject.
  6. Track enrollment and sales-lift reporting from the same Sustainability Solutions Hub dashboards once products are live with the leaf icon.
Climate Pledge Friendly enrollment paths: CPF product template through a certifier, or a direct support case for USDA Organic, EU Organic and OEKO-TEX
The certifier may charge, even though Amazon does not
Amazon states plainly that there is no Amazon fee to join Climate Pledge Friendly. That is not the same as a free program end to end: the third-party certification itself, the GOTS, USDA Organic or OEKO-TEX audit and certificate a product needs before it can even be submitted, is issued and priced by the certifying body, not by Amazon. Budget for the certification's own cost and renewal cycle before counting on the published lift as a pure margin gain.

Example certifications accepted through the template path

Amazon's help article names several certification families that go through the standard CPF product template, each aimed at a different sustainability claim. The textile group covers the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for organic fiber content, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS, in both 100 and Blended variants) for recycled material content, the Organic Content Standard (OCS, also 100 and Blended) for organic non-food fiber, the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) for wool sourcing, and the Leather Working Group (LWG) rating for leather tanning practices. Outside textiles, USDA Organic and EU Organic cover food and agricultural products under their respective governments' organic standards, and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN certify that finished textile products and production sites meet chemical-safety and sustainable-manufacturing criteria. A product needs only one of these, matched to what it can genuinely document, not all of them.

What is excluded from Climate Pledge Friendly?

Amazon excludes a fixed list of categories from Climate Pledge Friendly outright, for one of two stated reasons: either the category's sustainability impact does not fit the program, or the relevant sustainability claim in that category is so commonplace it would not actually help a customer make a more informed choice. A product in one of these categories stays out of the program even if it is recognized by an otherwise qualifying certification.
  • Aerosols
  • Beef Books
  • E-cigarette / smoking accessories
  • Fresh cut flowers
  • Fur
  • Gas-powered tools and equipment
  • Glitter and confetti
  • Peat-based compost and soil
  • Plastic bottled water
  • Single-use coffee/tea/beverage pods
One more exclusion applies only in European stores
Beyond the fixed category list, Amazon's help article adds a European-stores-only rule: to avoid customer confusion, products with an EU Energy Label score of D or lower are currently not included in Climate Pledge Friendly, even with a qualifying certification. This rule is scoped to the European stores in Amazon's own article and is not stated for the US store.

Is the certification effort worth it for your catalog?

The published lift is real, but it is an average across every enrolled product in Amazon's study, not a promise for a specific ASIN, so the decision comes down to three factors a seller can actually check before spending time or money on a certification. First, does the product already hold, or come close to qualifying for, one of the certifications Amazon accepts; starting a certification process from zero for a product that was never designed with a sustainability standard in mind is a much bigger lift than adding the leaf icon to a product that was already organic, recycled or otherwise compliant without anyone pursuing the label. Second, is the category excluded outright; no certification helps a product on the 10-category exclusion list, so that check comes first, before any certifier conversation. Third, does the category have real competitive pressure from already-certified listings; a seller researching the category with Analytics before enrolling can see whether certified competitors already dominate page one, which changes whether a seller is catching up or getting ahead.
The clearest case: a product already compliant with an accepted standard
The strongest return on effort is a product that already meets GOTS, USDA Organic, EU Organic, OEKO-TEX or one of the other accepted standards for reasons unrelated to Amazon, where the only remaining step is documenting that compliance through the certifier and submitting it through the right path. For that seller, the published 12%/10% figures describe upside on a product that needed no redesign, only paperwork.

Common Climate Pledge Friendly mistakes

  • Assuming any eco-sounding label qualifies; only an Amazon-approved third-party certification (or an Amazon-run equivalent) gets the leaf icon.
  • Treating the published +12%/+10% lift as a guaranteed outcome for every ASIN instead of a category- and brand-dependent average.
  • Forgetting the certifier's own fee and audit cycle because Amazon's own enrollment has no program fee.
  • Submitting a product in an excluded category (or a European listing with a low EU Energy Label score) and then being surprised the leaf icon never appears.
  • Using the wrong submission path, for example sending a USDA Organic or EU Organic case through the general CPF product template flow instead of its own short submission process.

Climate Pledge Friendly enrollment checklist

  • Confirmed the product is not in one of Amazon's 10 excluded categories.
  • For EU listings, checked the product's EU Energy Label score is above D where that label applies.
  • Identified which approved third-party certification the product already holds, or is realistic to obtain.
  • Budgeted for the certifier's own fee and renewal cycle, separate from Amazon's own zero program fee.
  • Completed the correct submission path: the general CPF product template through the certifier, or the direct support-case path for USDA Organic, EU Organic and OEKO-TEX.
  • Set a baseline for sales, revenue and glance views on the enrolled ASINs before the leaf icon goes live, to measure the real lift against Amazon's published average.
Enrolling a product in Climate Pledge Friendly is a listing-attribute and certification problem before it is a marketing one. Listing Optimizer helps keep the certification and sustainability-feature attributes on a listing accurate once a product enrolls, so the leaf icon has the right fields behind it. Analytics tracks sales, revenue and glance views on the enrolled ASINs before and after enrollment, so you can measure the real lift against Amazon's published 12%/10% average instead of guessing. What is Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly?

Climate Pledge Friendly is an Amazon program that highlights products recognized by at least one approved third-party sustainability certification with a leaf icon and a sustainability-features label on the product page. Amazon's Seller Central help article states it covers 14 international stores and over 4 million products carrying a sustainability feature.

Does Climate Pledge Friendly really increase sales?

Amazon's own Seller Central help article reports an average +12% sales lift and +10% more glance views in a product's first year in the program, credited to a 2024 commissioned study with a PhD from the USC Marshall School of Business. The figure uses US and EU5 data and is an average, not a guarantee for any single product.

Is there a fee to join Climate Pledge Friendly?

Amazon states plainly there is no Amazon fee to join the Climate Pledge Friendly program itself. That is not the whole cost picture, though: the third-party certifying body that issues the sustainability certification a product needs before it can even be submitted sets and charges its own fee for that certification and its renewal cycle.

How do I enroll a product in Climate Pledge Friendly?

Open the Sustainability Solutions Hub in Seller Central by hovering over Growth in the main menu and selecting Explore Programs. Most qualifying certifications use Amazon's CPF product template, completed and shared with your certifier, who reports the data to Amazon; USDA Organic, EU Organic and OEKO-TEX instead use a direct support-case submission naming the certification.

Can any product qualify for Climate Pledge Friendly with the right marketing claims?

No. Amazon only accepts a product into Climate Pledge Friendly once it carries an approved third-party sustainability certification, or in some cases an Amazon-run equivalent; there is no general self-certification path. Writing an eco-sounding product description or bullet point does not trigger the leaf icon on its own, regardless of how accurate the claim is.

Which products are excluded from Climate Pledge Friendly?

Amazon excludes 10 categories outright regardless of certification, including aerosols, fur, gas-powered tools and equipment, glitter and confetti, and single-use coffee, tea or beverage pods. European-store listings also face one extra rule: products with an EU Energy Label score of D or lower are currently excluded there, even with an otherwise qualifying certification.

Is Climate Pledge Friendly the same thing as Amazon's Climate Pledge?

No, the two are separate. The Climate Pledge is Amazon's own corporate sustainability commitment, which Amazon's program page says over 500 companies have signed alongside Amazon. Climate Pledge Friendly is the distinct, product-level certification program covered in this guide, and only it affects whether a seller's listing shows the leaf icon.
